ZOOM MEETING GUIDELINES
ALL ZOOM EVENTS WILL BE RECORDED AND USED FOR THE ARCHIVE!
THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF ATTENDEES FOR THIS EVENT:
HOST/CO-HOSTS(This would be me and maybe 2 others who could moderate if I had to step out for a few minutes)
PARTICIPANT/PANELIST: These people take priority in terms of screentime, and are expected to arrive on time, with their speaking points in order. These are the ones who are taking this opportunity to the max, and they will help us get the most out of our story telling and topic discussions.
PARTY ATTENDEE/GUESTS: These are attendees who are coming to have a good time seeing old faces, and adding to the conversation time permitting. These people are NOT required to arrive ontime or stay through the entire event, but we’re only having so many of these- soak this entire journey in! We will more than likely ask these attendees to have their video screen off as well as mics muted depending on the size of our group.
In the event you’re wondering what this might look like: There’s 2 TV shows that are similar, please Google them and/or check them out on YouTube- there’s plenty of content from both: The McLaughlin Group from PBS and ESPN’s Around The Horn. We’re not going to have people talk over one another like McLaughlin and we’re not going to keep score the way Around The Horn does- but I think if you get a familiarity with both, you’ll see what we’re trying to do. And yes, if someone goes over a certain amount of time talking- I, AND/OR MY CO-HOST(S) WILL MUTE.
WE STRONGLY SUGGEST:
Attend these events from a laptop/desktop so your phone can be free to text others in the group. People who will be attending but not participating in a panel? Using your phone in that case isn’t quite so consequential but this will be prime time in terms of developing your takes/stories/views!
Have PEN and PAPER by you so you can take notes. Odds are better than average that when we’re discussing something you’re familar with, that things will hit you all of a sudden(This happened to me alot developing this archive), and you’re going to want to take a notes reminding you of a moment that seemed forgotten but in the words of Celine Dion “It’s all coming back to me now!”. That’s why we’re doing these Zoom parties, imagine hearing things from other people and it strikes in your mind “Oh yeah! Now I remember that thing from __________”
We seriously encourage you to send us your takes/stories during these events. Have one window on Zoom, have another with your email and have at it! If you agree or disagree with something someone(including myself) made on the panel, then by all means email your thoughts! And to all of you people who like to talk vs type- you can talk into your email no matter what service you use!
WHAT IF I DIDN’T RSVP BUT AT THE LAST MINUTE, I’M GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT, WHAT CAN I DO?
I’ll have you contact my co-host and we’ll share the zoom information with you. But do not expect to be on a panel depending on the size of the group.
WHAT IF I RSVP’D BUT AT THE LAST MINUTE, I’M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT, WHAT CAN I DO?
Contact me directly via text. But here’s hoping that you make these events a priority and that it takes an legit emergency for you to have to miss it.
WHAT IF I RSVP’D BUT COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE EVENT?
Use Google Calendar and/or AI Siri/Gemini to give you reminders and you won’t have this problem, and we won’t need to have an unpleasant conversation. If this happens, plan on being held accountable.
WHAT IF I RSVP’D, I’M ON A PANEL BUT I’M RUNNING LATE, WHAT CAN I DO?
Contact me directly via text. LMK when you’re coming but you will have to join us in progress. If you’re an panelist in an early topic, plan on us moving forward without you and you’ll have to go with the flow. If you’re a panelist for something later in the event, odds of this being no harm, no foul increase dramatically.
WHAT IF I RSVP’D, I’M ON A PANEL BUT I WON’T BE ABLE TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
I cannot promise that I can arrange this for anyone, but in the case of people who live on the East Coast and I’m aware of that, I will make an honest effort to get people like those to be on earlier panels, then after they’re done they can leave. But that is NOT GUARANTEED.
WHAT IF I RSVP’D, I AM NOT ON ANY PANEL BUT I WILL EITHER BE RUNNING LATE AND/OR NOT ABLE TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE EVENT, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
People like that get to decide how much or how little they want to listen/watch. But it’s people like this, with pad and pen with their mic muted that will have an excellent opportunity to send takes/stories to the archive while they have this era on their mind.
