THE BEST DOLLAR I EVER SPENT

Denver had a panhandling problem forever, and I had a good friend going through a rough period. On one summer night in 1999, I managed to kill two birds with a single dollar.

THE BULLETBOY(S) SCAM

In January 2004, Pinke’s hosted what was supposed to headline the original lineup of the Bulletboys. Well, one out of four isn’t bad if we’re using baseball terms.

TWO BANDS WHO REALLY SUCK

Being in a band is a harder thing than people think, but there were two to this day stand out as flat out horrible. One band chased my crowd out at Pinke’s, costing me money. The other made light of the Holocaust, which no person has the right to make humor out of, and a Marine told them so during their show.

MEETING SCOTT DANKEL & HIS FORGIVENESS TO ME

One of the most respected persons in the circuit both in personality as well as talent was this father of 3. But he and I met under the worst of conditions and if shooting someone was legal, we wouldn’t have this archive but I don’t blame him for how he was. Fortunately, we got on nicely later and this is a little tribute to the guy.

my audition with kronow

One of the guys I respected the most was Kronow’s vocalist James Brennan, who took this group to a whole other level that concluded with them “Forever Altered”. I decided to audition for these guys, and it was best for all that we didn’t join forces, but the evening of the audition was a great time.

an evening with lemmy

There was rock and roll before Motorhead as well as afterwards. But we were in the generation of seeing Ian “Lemmy” Kilmster play “Real Rock & Roll” in his prime and there will never be another like him. I also had an epiphany when I saw Nashville Pussy’s tour bus, realizing that I lived better than most national acts. Keith Spargo and I went to the 1998 “Snakebitelove” tour date at the Ogden, and it was unforgettable.

STEPHEN PEARCY NYE 05/06

My band was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to open for Ratt’s frontman. And I got to meet Fox 31’s anchorwoman Shaul Turner in the process. Turns out she met someone that night she had intrest in, but that man wasn’t me.

CURSE OF THE SKAPEGOAT

Skapegoat was a great rock/metal band that had an awesome one two punch with their vocalists/guitarists. I liked them instantly, but anytime I tried to get something together with them, things through no direct fault of theirs, would just go wrong.

my birthday with buckcherry

If there was a national act I took to right away with their first CD, it was Buckcherry’s self-titled debut and it was all killer with no filler. They were going to play at the Soiled Dove on my birthday. I had an emerging hot blonde to be my date, and Sick was opening. Who could ask for anything more? Well, one thing didn’t go as expected but another gesture from Josh Todd made up for it.

KEEPING IT METAL IN MY FAMILY

My cousin Nick, who is 13 years younger than got into metal himself as the frontman guitarist of Beguile during this era. Out of my experiences, this is a particular fave of mine because he made fun of me at every opportunity and I can’t say he was wrong in doing so. He really agitated our grandmother by reciting Marilyn Manson lyrics also.

stormtroopers of death & a bag of cheetos

The ever so politically incorrect S.O.D. came by Denver in late 1999 to promote their “Sympathy For The Devil” CD. Half the e-list members were there, and a discovery after the show was something that was etched in my brain to this day.

MY DATE W/MARIS THE GREAT

July 4th, 2005 I had no plans. That’s until Maris called me and asked if I could take him to the W.A.S.P./L.A. Guns/Stephen Pearcy/Metal Church that was supposed to also have Moore and Havok but they got so rudely bumped off the bill. And that wasn’t the worst of it.

revenge on a throat culture babe

Rod Brown’s magazine was still black and white during the time, but one of the early TCB’s was dating one of my closest friends and was roommates with another. At a show with Offering74, she completely ruined a date who I was working on getting naked with for a month. But I learned something nuclear, and pulled the trigger on it.

CORRUPTION’S CD RELEASE SHOW AT PINKE’S

This night was memorable, and even though more than one person gave me a serious headache both on the stage as well as off of it, there was a moment that night that I’ll fondly remember, and I didn’t mind getting guff from the bosses over.

MY BIGGEST MISTAKE

Influenced by Silencer’s Jeff Alexis’s initiative to form Divine Intervention, a Slayer tribute band, I had a brief moonlighting period with three guys calling ourselves Accilatem, we however didn’t share the same ambitions, but fortunately a group called the Metallikids came to my rescue.

SILENCER’S FIRST EVER SHOW AT THE ZONE

I was just learning how to play properly, taking lessons both in music theory as well as bass guitar techniques, so it made sense for me to help Silencer out in it’s emergence on the scene, and a God Bless you but bite me to anyone who called me their waterboy. Their debut was memorable in more ways than one at The Zone

MRS. KENSINGTON AND I

She was a vocalist/artist herself that wasn’t so metal, but her act with Firesign was enjoyable and no one knew me quite the way she did. We were never a couple, but never follow the path of When Harry Met Sally, it’s only a movie and I’ll share why it’s foolish to follow fiction. That said, her and her family were one of the greatest things ever to happen to me.

ty the associate producer of a tv show

I didn’t make one single dime helping with the production of the Colorado Rock music show that paid for airtime at 1:00am on sunday mornings or the Innervison show that aired on public television, but my life got some serious education from Johnny Wonder, Dan Byars and his family on the power of possible, and it changed the trajectory of my life in the mid 2000’s
